Seventy percent of our people reside in villages and after about
two decades of liberalization, privatization and globalization
along with the pursuit for higher growth rate in the economy, the
issues relating to employment, rural infrastructure and rural
development are occupying the focal point in the economic
development of the country. We account for the maximum number of
poor in the world and have highest number of malnourished children
in the world. further, the rural-urban divide is becoming wider
and the disparities between rural and urban will continue to grow.
This is getting manifested in the form of growth of violent
discontent in the country. Another alarming concern is the lack of
interest and concern to the issues of rural population.
Hence there is a need for improving the productivity of farm
produce, minimize cost of production to make farming more
remunerative and competitive, transfer of proven technologies that
are simple and environment friendly, resource conserving
productive technologies. In addition the technologies related to
non farm activities like forestry, pre-farm, post farm, crafts,
housing, education, health, energy, transport, waste recycling
technologies have to be popularized..
Swamy Ramananda Tirtha Rural Institute has the primary
objective of empowering the rural people by providing easy access
to technological education, training and related activities with a
view to overcome the economic constraints and increase the income
generating activities in rural India, through the thrust areas of
training, extension, and research. In order to achieve the
objectives aimed at improving the conditions of rural population,
the Institute has designed a number of programmes related to
training and extension activities for providing easy access to
technologies, thus ensuring access to the viable and
economic activities to the rural population for enhancing the
livelihoods.
In this direction, the institute is engaged in training rural
youth in various training programmes in the field of Textiles,
Handicrafts, Food processing, Computer Sciences etc. In the recent
past, the Institute has taken up innovative training programmes
for educated unemployed youth by training them in modern
technologies like solar energy, seed testing by DNA finger
printing, textile designing etc. The institute is also thinking in
terms of effective implementation of the programmes / schemes of
government by providing training and to encourage the rural
youth to take risks and adopt new technologies.
